Mommy did you know?

Mommy, did you know you would grow up to be a mommy?
Did you know the joy that you would feel at my birth?
Did you know how much love you would feel?
Did you know how much I would love you back?
Mommy did you know?

Mommy, did you know how much work it would take to take care of me?
Did you know how much sleep you would lose?
Did you know how much time we would spend together?
Did you know how much you would teach me?
Did you know you would watch me grow and wish I would stay your baby forever?
Mommy, did you know?

Mommy, did you know how hard it would be for you to watch me leave, even though
you knew I would be back at 3:30, excited to tell you all about my first day of school.
Did you know how you would miss me while I was at school?
Did you know how hard it would be for you as we slowly drifted apart as I began to spend more time with friends?
Did you know how hard it would be to watch me grow?
Mommy, did you know?

Mommy, did you know you would want to take hundreds of pictures of me and my date before I went with him to my first dance.
Did you know how much you would want to keep me home as I rode away with the boy on my first date?
Did you know how much you would worry until I came home?
Did you know how curious you would be when I walked in the door?
Did you know how sad you would feel when I did not tell you all the details?
Mommy, did you know?

Mommy, did you know how quickly this day would come?
Did you know how much you would hate to see me sit on the dorm bed?
Did you know how hard you would have to try to keep all the tears in as you waved good bye?
Did you know how hard it would be to let me go?
Mommy, did you know?

Mommy, did you know you are my hero?
Did you know?

I have recently been working on a project for church were I was asked to develop some attributes that mothers have. As I was beginning this project I was reminded of this poem that I wrote for a class.

The Ten Dollar Trip

A couple days ago, the Newspaper said that there was going to be a storm spotters class at the historic courthouse in Cassville, Missouri. I didn't have any plans for Monday afternoon and the class sounded interesting. My parents didn't have a problem with me driving up there as long as I took someone with me. I convinced my sister Katelyn to go by telling her that we would be stopping off at different stores to shop. (I didn't tell her that the stores were going to be antique stores and flee markets.) I also recruited my brother Colten to come by telling him that he would learn more about weather (he was involved in Science Olympiad and worked on some meteorology stuff).

This was my copilot Katelyn, she tried to help by giving me the directions. She did not trust my navigation skills enough and spent most of the time telling me that I missed the turn or was lost.

Colten was our passenger. He read the whole ride up and ended up falling asleep first.

The drive wasn't as long as I was expecting it to be. It may have been because we took a break from driving about halfway through, and went to our first flea markets. It was the first time I had ever gone in one and it was pretty fun. I found a stack of old cookbooks that I looked at for five minutes until Colten drug me away from them. (He didn't enjoy the stores as much as I did.)

When we got to Cassville we still had an hour or so before the class was supposed to start so I drove around. We saw their schools, the library, the square, and some more flea markets (which of course we stopped at). I got a little adventurous and drove around town a little until Colten spotted a Walmart (where we wandered around for a good 25 mins). When 5:45 finally rolled around, we circled around the square until we found the Historic courthouse, only to find that the class was full of volunteer fire fighters and police officers. I did feel a little out of place sitting behind a group of full grown muscular men, but I am sure that it was nothing in compared to what Katelyn and Colten were feeling. They begged me to leave, but I had driven all this way, I had to sit in for at least half of it.

I did end up staying for only half of it because I thought my parents would want me home. So I did not get certified in storm spotting and I did not buy anything from any of the flea markets, but the experience and the memories that we made were worth the trip.

Spring is here!

Only in Missouri can it be 68 on day and snowing the next!
Today was the first day of spring and yet it is snowing.
It started out as a very cold rain that lasted over half the day. Later it turned to snow. Leaving us with a cold icy slush.

The tree branches are cracking under the weight of the ice. The trees sway like icy brittle towers waiting to fall crashing to the ground where they will break into a million pieces. The icy rain sounds like little pebbles as they tap at the windows. It is so cold outside that it sends shivers straight to the bone. How is it spring when it feels like winter?
I heard that it is supposed to be back in the 70s on Tuesday. But I hope that Monday is nice. I am wanting to take my brother down to Cassville for a Storm Chasers class.

Love Your Life

Love your breath
it keeps you alive.
Love your body
it's the only one you have.
Love your family
they teach you how to love.
Love what you have
you have it.
Love the little things
they make a life time.
Love your life
without it you wouldn't be.

I hear Kickapoo Singing

This is a random poem that I wrote last year in my English III class.

I hear Kickapoo singing their different songs,
Each song unique and strong
as it should be.
The Freshman softly sing as they avoid the chief head tile.
The Sophomores quickly sing as they walk annoyingly to Chief time.
The Juniors boldly sing as they plan for the next day.
The Seniors proudly sing as they rule the school.
The teachers happily sing as they teach prepare the students for the real world.
Each sing the song that belongs to them
Day to day they sing,
Singing the songs with open mouths their strong familiar songs.

Grease Lions

March 20th is getting closer, bringing with it the official first day of Spring. Each day I have been looking for little signs that say "It's spring!". Yesterday I was able to witness a sure sign of spring, a PTA meeting. Actually I got to go to two. There were so many people there that they ended up splitting it into two different groups. I was lucky enough, or so I thought, to get a seat on the floor before they closed the doors for the first meeting. (It turned out that my parents wanted to stay for both so really I wasn't that luck.) It sounds pretty boring, but it was not really that bad. It was definitely not what I was expecting.

Of coarse this was a PTA meeting, so the beginning consisted of voting on the PTA leaders for next year followed by a guest speaker. This guest was there to try to get people to sign a petition to get alcohol out of family movie theaters, because more and more kids have been able to get their hands on these beverages. When a clipboard got to me I held on to it for a while debating with myself. They had said that you had to live inside city limits for it to count, but I really wanted to sign my first petition. After holding on to it for quite some time, I signed it and passed it on. I felt so grown up until one of my old teachers, who was sitting near me, asked if I lived inside city limits. I suddenly didn't feel so grown up because I had signed it knowing that I didn't live inside city limits. I later found out that my mom had signed it too, so I wasn't the only one that would not be counted.

Finally the principle began to quiet the crowd and the reason that I had come was announced, the start of the play. The whole fifth grade lead by the choir teacher and PE coach, had been practicing for the past few weeks to perfect a little play based off of the Grease theme. It was very fun to watch. It is funny how even though there were a lot of kids, there were a few that stuck out to me.
One girl looked like she would burst into tears when she heard that she was going to have to stay to preform the play a second time.
The PE coach, who had choreographed the whole play, was dancing way more then all of the kids.
The cute little boy in the toga who was getting into the dance moves about as much as he had gotten into the glitter.

The boy that really got into the character of Danny by making small suggestive dance moves. The same boy who ended up singing all of the high notes, even the ones that were higher than the ones that the girls were singing.
Those few kids that could careless about what was going on in the play and were not even moving their mouths to sing.
The little boy in the audience that knew the dance moves more then half of the kids on the stage.

Both plays were pretty good and got most of the Grease songs stuck in my head. In the end, it was nice to leave that warm overcrowded gym and walk out to a light rain. Another sure sign of spring!

Fire trucks, TV Stars, and Little Sailors

Every morning, well almost every morning, my day begins at 5:00 am(on the days that I don't wake up at five it is more like 5:30). To many this is unusual, but to my friends and I it is just part of the day because at 6:00am we go to a early morning Bible study. However, when I pulled into the parking lot this morning there was something wrong. There was a Fire chief's cruiser parked in the spot that I normally park in. We found out that the alarm had been triggered some how and that Bible study had been canceled. I didn't want to go back home, knowing that I would not want to leave again so I asked if anyone was up for breakfast. The boys wanted to get some McDonald's, but when it was my turn to order I realized that nothing sounded good. I took the other girl, Amanda, to Panera. While standing in line, I pointed out two men a head of us in line. I first recognized the first man's sweater and then his brown TOMS shoes. And when I looked at the other man's hair I knew where I had seen them, on the TV at Mcdonald's. Amanda and I could not believe that we were seeing these two people in person. They were not famous super stars, but they had been on TV just minutes before. We thought about stopping to take a picture with them for fun, but decided that it would be too childish. When we had our breakfast we met back up with the boys at Krispy Kreme.

We may have looked pretty tired, but after having a warm freshly baked, smoothly glazed doughnut, I sure did not feel it, and we sure didn't act like it was too early. The four boys surprisingly lost interest in the doughnuts after a few minutes and started posing for pictures. They were so fascinated the hats that the Krispy Kreme workers had creatively decorated with as each table had an arrangement of hats. I am not sure that the hats are supposed to, but I noticed that they made the boys look like cute little sailors.

After being so stressed last night, it was fun to kick back and have a little fun, even if it was early!

So much to do so little time

I cannot believe that it has almost been two weeks since I last posted! Don't worry it won't ever happen again! It seems that I have so much to do and there is never enough hours in the day. What ever happened to free time? It seems like so long ago that I was in middle school when everything was carefree. Back in the day, when the only person I had to worry about was myself. The time when homework was something I could get done at school. When practices for sports were only an hour after school. I didn't have to worry about saving money unless I was saving up for something big (something that cost over $20). There are a few things that I regret not doing. Like planning for my future, starting good habits, or saving money. I was always told that I should be doing those things then, but college was always so far away and I could always do it in high school. Or so I thought. Now that my future is so close, I know I was wrong. Isn't it funny how time seems to fly just when you need it the most?
